Anita Payne’s Story
Tell us about yourself. I grew up in Kent and as an adult have lived and worked in the UK and several African countries.
What are your hobbies or interests? I love exploring and learning about the natural world; walking, geology, wildlife, birdwatching, etc. I also have an interest in prehistory and archaeology.
How did you become a Christian? As a teenager I heard people speaking at the local church about how real God is and how he had changed their lives. I chose then to become a follower of Jesus.
What difference has God made in your life? When I thought more about God’s heart for poor and disadvantaged people, I changed career and trained to work in International Development. I’ve seen God touching many lives in communities in several African countries.
Do you have favourite Bible Verses? Yes. Luke 4:18-19. These are the words Jesus spoke, outlining why he had come to earth.
The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour.
